How to Migrate from Wix to Shopify: Step-by-Step Guide

To migrate from Wix to Shopify, export your products, customers and orders from Wix as CSV files, reformat them to match Shopify's templates, and import them into a new Shopify store. Then rebuild your pages, set up URL redirects from your old Wix links, test everything, and move your domain last.

Last updated: October 2026

Key takeaways

  • Products and customers move by CSV, or with Shopify's Store Migration app if it's available for your store.
  • Some things don't move cleanly: Wix doesn't let you export reviews, past orders need a third-party app, and pages and design must be rebuilt.
  • URL redirects from your old Wix links are what protect your Google rankings. Set them up before you switch the domain.
  • Keep your Wix site live until your Shopify store is fully tested. Move the domain last.
  • A small store with a few dozen products can usually be moved in a weekend. Large catalogs and custom features take longer.

What moves from Wix to Shopify, and how?

Not everything transfers the same way. This table, based on Shopify's guide to migrating from Wix, shows what moves and how.

Data Can it move? How
Products Yes Wix CSV export, reformatted, then Shopify product import
Customers Yes Wix contacts CSV, then Shopify customer import, or the Store Migration app
Past orders Yes, with an app A third-party migration app
Product reviews Not by export Wix doesn't allow review export. Re-import manually with a reviews app such as Judge.me, Loox or Yotpo
Pages (About, FAQ, policies) Rebuild Copy the content into Shopify pages and policies
Blog posts Rebuild or use an app Copy into a Shopify blog, or use a third-party migration app
Design No Choose a Shopify theme and rebuild the look
Google rankings Protected by redirects Redirect every old Wix URL to its new Shopify URL
Domain Yes Disconnect from Wix, then connect to Shopify

Step 1: Set up your Shopify store

Start a Shopify store before you touch anything on Wix. Your Wix site stays live the whole time, so customers can keep buying while you work.

When Shopify asks how you sell during setup, choose that you're already selling online and pick Wix as your platform. Shopify's guide says this is where its Store Migration app appears. The app is in early access, works only on desktop and isn't available for every store, so plan to use CSV files if you don't see it.

You can start a free Shopify trial to do all of this before you pay for a plan.

Step 2: Export your data from Wix

Wix exports everything as CSV files. Download all three, even if you only plan to import products, so you have a backup.

  1. Products: in Wix, go to Catalog > Store products > Products, click More actions, then Export, and choose All products.
  2. Customers: go to Customers & Leads > Contacts, click the three dots, choose Export contacts and select CSV.
  3. Orders: go to Orders, select the orders and click Export.

Also save copies of your page text, blog posts, policies and product photos. Write down every URL on your Wix site that gets traffic, because you'll need them for redirects in Step 6.

Step 3: Reformat the files for Shopify

Wix and Shopify use different column names, so the files need tidying before Shopify will accept them. This is the most fiddly part of the move.

  • Use Shopify's templates. Download Shopify's sample product CSV and customer CSV from the import screens and paste your data into them. Delete the sample rows.
  • Product handles (the end of each product's URL) can only contain letters, numbers and dashes.
  • Weights exported from Wix in kilograms need converting to grams: multiply by 1,000.
  • Variants: each option value needs its own row. Products with more than three options won't bring their options across, so plan to fix those by hand.
  • Customers: the column headers must match Shopify's exactly, and countries must use two-letter codes such as US or GB.

Step 4: Import products and customers into Shopify

Import a small test file first, check it, then import the rest.

  1. In Shopify, go to Products > Import, add your CSV, and untick the option to publish new products to all sales channels. That way nothing goes live before you've checked it.
  2. Click Upload and preview, check the preview, then import.
  3. Go to Customers > Import, add your customer CSV and import.
  4. Open ten random products and check the title, price, variants, images, weight and inventory against Wix.

Shopify notes that products with a missing variant option may fail to import. Add any that fail by hand. If you want past orders in Shopify too, for customer history and reporting, you'll need a third-party migration app from the Shopify App Store.

Step 5: Rebuild your pages and design

Your Wix design doesn't transfer, so this is the moment to fix what wasn't working. Choose a Shopify theme, add your logo and colors, then rebuild your key pages:

  • Homepage, About and Contact pages
  • Shipping, refund and privacy policies (Shopify has a dedicated policies section in Settings)
  • Navigation menus
  • Product pages: use our guide to Shopify product page best practices to make them better than they were on Wix
  • Blog posts you want to keep, especially any that get search traffic

Then set up payments, shipping rates and taxes in Settings, and place a test order.

Step 6: Set up URL redirects

Redirects send anyone who clicks an old Wix link, including Google, to the matching page on Shopify. Skip this step and old links break, which is how stores lose rankings after a move.

  1. List every old Wix URL that gets traffic: products, categories, blog posts and key pages.
  2. Match each one to its new Shopify URL. Shopify's URLs follow fixed patterns, such as /products/, /collections/, /pages/ and /blogs/, so many will change.
  3. In Shopify, go to Content > Menus, open URL Redirects, and create a redirect for each one. For a long list, import them all at once with a CSV file.
  4. Point any page with no equal to the closest relevant page, not just your homepage.

Set these up before you move the domain, so they work from the first minute.

Step 7: Test, then move your domain

Only switch the domain once the Shopify store is complete and tested. Run through this checklist first:

  • Place a real test order on your phone, including shipping and tax, and refund it.
  • Check that every product has images, the right price and working variants.
  • Check your shipping zones cover every country you sell to.
  • Turn on your abandoned checkout email and check who it goes to. Our guide on reducing abandoned checkouts on Shopify covers the settings.
  • Check that product pages load quickly on mobile.

To move your domain, disconnect it from Wix first. Shopify's guide says this avoids SSL certificate errors. Then connect it to Shopify and set it as your primary domain. If you're also moving email that runs through Wix, set up email forwarding or a new email provider before you switch.

After launch, click through your most-visited old URLs to check they redirect correctly. Search engines can't read your sitemap while the store is password-protected, and Shopify notes Google can take from a few days to a few weeks to index your new store.

How long does a Wix to Shopify migration take?

It depends on how much you're moving and how custom your Wix site is. As a rough guide:

Store size Typical DIY time
Under 50 products, a few pages A weekend
50 to 500 products with variants, a blog One to two weeks of evenings
500+ products, custom features, order history Usually worth getting help

Moving it yourself mainly costs your time, your Shopify plan and any paid migration apps you use.

If you're in the UK, EU or Australia

Check that your prices import with VAT or GST handled the same way they were on Wix. In Shopify, decide in your tax settings whether prices include tax, and set up your currency and markets before you import, so prices don't change by mistake.

Do it yourself or have it done for you

Do it yourself: a small Wix store can be moved in a weekend by following the steps above. Start a free trial, import a test file, and see how your products look before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer my Wix website to Shopify automatically?

Partly. Shopify's Store Migration app can import Wix products and customers, but it's in early access, works on desktop only and isn't available for every store. Otherwise you move products and customers by CSV. Design, pages and blog posts don't transfer automatically, Wix doesn't let you export reviews, and past orders need a third-party app.

Will I lose my Google rankings moving from Wix to Shopify?

You can keep most of them if you set up URL redirects from every old Wix URL that gets traffic to its matching Shopify page, and keep the same content on those pages. Stores lose rankings when old links break. Set up redirects before you move the domain, then check your most-visited pages after launch.

Can I keep my domain when I move from Wix to Shopify?

Yes. Disconnect the domain from Wix first, which Shopify says avoids SSL certificate errors, then connect it to your Shopify store and set it as the primary domain. If your email runs through the same domain, sort out email forwarding or a new email provider before you switch, so you don't miss messages.

Can I move my Wix product reviews to Shopify?

Not by export, because Wix doesn't allow reviews to be exported. You can copy them into a reviews app from the Shopify App Store, such as Judge.me, Loox or Yotpo, which let you import reviews manually. Keep the original wording, names and dates, and only move reviews that real customers left.

Should I cancel my Wix plan before moving to Shopify?

No. Keep Wix running until your Shopify store is complete, tested and live on your domain. Cancelling early can take your store offline and break the links you need for redirects. Once the domain has moved and you've checked your redirects and orders, download any remaining data and then cancel Wix.

Start by exporting your Wix products today. Even if you move later, you'll have a backup and a clear picture of what needs tidying.
